About Karanjia

Karanjia is a small town in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. It is located approximately 216 kilometers to the north of the state capital Bhubaneshwar. It is at an elevation of approximately 389 meters or 1276 feet above the sea level. It is bounded on the south east by the river Deo. Karanjia is an Assembly Constituency and is located under Keonjhar Parliamentary Constituency.

Geography of Karanjia

It is located at the north of the state of Odisha. It is located at 21.47 degrees North and 85.58 degrees to the East. It is adjacent to the river Deo which passes from its South side. It is located to the north of the capital of the state Bhubaneshwar and has an approximate elevation of 389 meters from the sea level. Other towns or villages located near to Karanjia are Badadeuli, Kuliposi, Bala, Tato, Kerkera, and some more. It lies on the border of the Kendhujar District and Mayurbhanj District. It is located 94 kilometers towards the West from the district headquarters Baripada.

Karanjia has 49% male population out of the overall population and females constitute 51% of the total population of the town. The literacy rate of Karanjia is 83.35% which is more than both the state average of 72.87% and the national average of 59%.

Karanjia has some famous temples where people visit all through the year. Maa Ambika temple is one of the most important religious place in Karanjia. Jagnnath Temple, Shyamarai Temple, Purneshwar Shiva Temple, Rani Sati Temple are some other important temples of the town. Another famous temple here is the Kichakeshwari Temple. DolaYatra is a famous century old festival celebrated here. Due to influx of tourists few hotels have come across the town.
